March, 2017 - The Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of their Annual Gala Ball that raises funds to directly support numerous charitable organizations including the Society’s well-known Nutritional Snack Program that helps feed hungry kids in Burnaby schools.
This year's celebration will take place at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel the evening of Saturday, April 8th starting at 6:00 pm.
“We are very thankful Scotiabank has stepped forward as our presenting sponsor for our milestone 25th Anniversary celebration,” says Jeff Clark, President of the Society. “Scotiabank has been a long time supporter of our Charitable Society and we sincerely appreciate all they do to help us reach our fundraising goals. Our local newspaper, the Burnaby Now, is our Media Sponsor this year and we are very grateful to them and to our long time major sponsors who are returning this year with their generous support.”
Every year, the volunteer organizers of this major fundraising event choose a new theme to enhance the Ball. This year's theme is “A Walk Down Memory Lane’, and Miles Ritchie, secretary of the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society, says there will be a major focus on acknowledging and thanking all the supporters, donors and volunteers who, over the past 25 years, have helped the Annual Charitable Ball succeed and grow into a major important "FUN"draising - emphasis on fun - event in Burnaby. And, he says, “We hope to make this the best Ball yet and are planning a few surprises!”.
Silent and live auctions, celebrity MCs, specialty cocktails and spectacular culinary creations from the chefs and staff at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel have become highly-anticipated traditions at this popular social event - and each year has outgrown the last both in attendance and money raised.
“We are so thankful our supporters have consistently shown their extreme generosity, and every year it seems tickets to the Ball sell out quicker than the last," says Paul Rushton, Treasurer of the Society. "The funds raised from this event go to our Nutritional Snack Program, our CPR Training Program and help assist so many organizations and non-profit societies that we are able to support in our community that provide valuable and much needed services to so many. We are grateful to everyone who supports our Ball, either by buying tickets to attend or through sponsorships or donations.”
Highly-valued volunteers from Scotiabank and from Local 323 of the International Fire Fighters Association, the Burnaby Firefighters - who attend in dress uniform - help guests enjoy and participate in the evening’s festivities, including the silent and live auctions that have become two of the many highlights of the Annual Ball. “We highly value the commitment graciously extended year after year by everyone who volunteers their time and effort at our Annual Ball,” says Jeff Clark. “If it wasn’t for their participation, we really couldn’t do this. On behalf of the Executive of our Charitable Society, a big thank you goes to our volunteers for all they do.”
Chris Stroppa, vice-president of the Charitable Society, says, “The valuable support from everyone in the community who buys the tickets and comes to the Ball is amazing. Our sponsors are incredible and we are so thankful for their ongoing and generous contributions. And our donors and volunteers have helped make sure this event is a not-miss fun evening for all to enjoy while we raise money to help those in need in our communities.”
